Project Director Nancy Eckert has vast program leadership experience based on creative visions and the passion to see them through. As a certified League of American Cyclist Instructor, and lifetime educator, she was well equipped to develop and operate the EZBike Project, the e-Bike lending library in Santa Barbara County from July 2020 to Dec 2021. In 12 months the program reached over 700 people, successfully helping approximately 40% of them switch from automobiles to electric bikes for many of their trips.
The electric bike lending system stemmed from her experience with Santa Barbara’s Safe Routes to School program. She spent 10 years as the lead instructor developing curriculum, training staff and expanding programs from approximately 400 kids served to over 4,000 kids served during her tenure. She expanded programming throughout the county by facilitating bike drives, implementing bike ed in PE, conducting classroom presentations, expanding on bike offerings, running community helmet distributions, and tabling at health fairs and festivals.
Her program design and management experiences are indeed deep. Prior to being a bike educator, she developed a recycling education program for San Luis Obispo County. She followed design with implementation putting together the curriculum and materials, class schedules, and teaching. She’s also designed a unique "process-oriented coaching" club softball and private coaching program. Nancy is a lifelong bicycle advocate who has worked diligently over the years to further cycling in her community. She volunteers with Bike Valet at the Santa Barbara Bowl, as well as runs a women's recreational cycling group.
Together we can reduce the impact of climate change.
